Honoring Black History by Honoring Our Elders Upcoming event (BMHV)
Cultural preservation is not only an act of resistance; it is a healing and protective factor for our mental health. This Black History Month, as we recognize 100 years of Black History, we invite you to honor Black history by lifting up the Black elders whose wisdom, labor, and love have shaped our community. Held on Nashville 16 Day, this gathering also honors the Black children and families who helped desegregate Nashville public schools and changed the trajectory of our city.
Join us for “Honoring Black History by Honoring Our Elders,” a community gathering centered on storytelling, gratitude, and celebration of Black elders in Nashville.

The Pearl High 70s Decade Group Christmas Party & Banquet
BELOW IS ABSOLUTELY
“ALL THE INFORMATION”
YOU WILL NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OUR “REUNITING ALUMS OF NORTH NASHVILLE’S 70S DECADE”CHRISTMAS PARTY & BANQUET THAT’S BEING HELD ON DEC 20, 2025 AT THE COOL SPRINGS MARRIOTT HOTEL FOR ALL OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL ALUMS OF NORTH NASHVILLE FROM AND AROUND THE 7OS DECADE ERA.
THIS OVERALL MESSAGE BELOW IS SOMEWHAT LENGTHY & DETAILED, BUT IT’S ALL NECESSARY INFORMATION! HOWEVER, IF YOU DON’T LIKE READING, YOU MAY WANT TO SIMPLY SEEK OUT THE TOPICS THAT INTEREST YOU, AS ALL THE TOPICS ARE MARKED WITH AN ASTERISK *
BESIDE THEM. THOSE TOPICS* WILL DESCRIBE THE CONTENT OF THE PARAGRAPHS THAT ARE ABOUT TO FOLLOW
THOSE TOPICS *.
THIS WILL HELP YOU DETERMINE IF THE INFORMATION IN ANY GIVEN PARAGRAPH WILL BE OF INTEREST TO YOU BEFORE YOU READ IT.
THIS WILL SAVE YOU A LOT OF READING TIME.
THIS REMINDS ME OF WHAT OUR TEACHERS FROM OUR 70S DECADE SCHOOL DAYS TOLD US, WHICH WAS “RIF”…. ..READING IS FUNDAMENTAL!
*WHO’S THIS PARTY FOR
YOU NORTH NASHVILLE ALUMS THAT ATTENDED PEARL HIGH AND NORTH HIGH, AS WELL AS THOSE OF YOU THAT WERE BUSED FROM NORTH NASHVILLE TO OTHER OUTLYING HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE CITY,
SUCH AS HILLWOOD, COHN, STRATFORD, MAPLEWOOD AND GLENCLIFF HIGH.
PLEASE KNOW THIS “REUNITING ALUMS OF NORTH NASHVILLE’S 70S DECADE” CHRISTMAS PARTY & BANQUET”
IS FOR YOU !
*WHO’S ALL INVITED:
WE ARE INVITING AND RECOGNIZING ALL OF OUR NORTH NASHVILLE ALUMS FROM OUR
7OS DECADE ERA
AND THEREABOUTS,
THAT ATTENDED PEARL HIGH & NORTH HIGH AND THOSE THAT LIVED IN NORTH NASHVILLE BUT WERE ZONED & BUSED TO OTHER OUTLYING HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE CITY SUCH AS:
HILLWOOD HIGH
COHN HIGH
STRATFORD HIGH
MAPLEWOOD HIGH.
GLENCLIFF HIGH
*IS CUMBERLAND HIGH INCLUDED:
YOU CUMBERLAND HIGH ALUMS FROM AND AROUND THE 70S DECADE ERA ARE INVITED AS WELL, AS WE ALWAYS CONSIDERED BORDEAUX AS AN EXTENSION OF NORTH NASHVILLE.
AFTER ALL, WHEN CUMBERLAND HIGH CLOSED AFTER THEIR FINAL CLASS OF 1971, (AS DID OUR JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS) A LOT OF THOSE CUMBERLAND STUDENTS FROM THE REMAINING YEARS OF THE 70’S DECADE WERE RELOCATED TO NORTH HIGH AND MAPLEWOOD HIGH
*WHO’S SPONSORING OR PRESENTING THIS EVENT:
THE PEARL HIGH 70S DECADE GROUP IS PRESENTING AND HOSTING THIS EVENT. WE INVITE ALL OF OUR PEARL HIGH AND NORTH HIGH ALUMS, AND AS MENTIONED ABOVE, WE ARE INVITING ALL OF OUR NORTH NASHVILLE ALUMS OF AND AROUND THAT 70S DECADE ERA, REGARDLESS OF THE HIGH SCHOOL YOU NORTH NASHVILLE ALUMS & NEIGHBORS WERE BUSED TO.
*DATE, TIME & LOCATION:
OUR CHRISTMAS PARTY IS ON DEC 20, 2025 FROM 6:00PM-11:00PM AT THE COOL SPRINGS MARRIOTT HOTEL. LOCATED AT 700 COOL SPRINGS BLVD FRANKLIN TN.
*DIRECTIONS:
IT’S JUST 15 MINUTES FROM DOWNTOWN NASHVILLE’S BROADWAY
INTERSTATE ENTRANCE RAMP TO 1-40 / I-65 SO. STAY RIGHT TO I-65 SO. TAKE THE COOL SPRINGS EAST EX FROM I-65 SO, AND WITHOUT TURNING, YOU WILL BE ON COOL SPRINGS BLVD HEADED EAST. AFTER PASSING A “TURNING LIGHT” TO YOUR LEFT, YOU WILL NEXT PASS THROUGH THE 1ST ACTUAL LIGHT AT CAROTHERS. IMMEDIATELY AFTER PASSING THE LIGHT AT CAROTHERS, TURN LEFT INTO THE MARRIOTT HOTEL’S PARKING AREA.
*REASON FOR CHOOSING THIS VENUE:
THIS VENUE WILL DEFINITELY PROVIDE THE SPACE AND ELEGANCE THAT OUR NORTH NASHVILLE ALUMS REQUIRE AND DESERVE! IT ALSO HAS A LARGE DANCE FLOOR AND STAGE.
*TICKET PRICE IS $85 PER PERSON.
*HOW TO BUY TICKETS:
YOU CAN CALL OR TEXT LORENZO SHORT AT 615 485-8110 OR YOU CAN USE ZELLE TO BUY YOUR TICKETS BUT ONLY AFTER FIRST CALLING OR TEXTING LORENZO SHORT AT 615 485-8110 FOR THE ZELLE ACCOUNT INFORMATION BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO PAY VIA ZELLE. LORENZO CAN ALSO MEET YOU TO SELL YOU TICKETS.
*THINGS WE WILL PROVIDE:
WE WILL HAVE THE HIGHLY SOUGHT, HIGHER GROUND BAND AND A GREAT DJ BETWEEN BAND SETS. WE WILL HAVE A SIT DOWN BUTLER STYLED DINNER, SO THERE WILL BE NO STANDING IN LINE WAITING TO BE SERVED.
WE WILL HAVE 2 CASH BARS IN THE BANQUET ROOM AND WE WILL ALSO HAVE FULL ACCESS TO THE HOTEL AND ALL IT’S AMMENITIES. WE WILL HAVE A PROFESDIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER ON SITE. WE WILL HAVE FREE PARKING WITH NO ELECTRONIC GATES TO DEAL WITH OR PARKING TICKETS TO KEEP UP WITH.
*THINGS WE RECOMMEND:
WE SUGGEST GETTING TABLES OF 10 SEATS (10 TO A TABLE) SO YOU CAN HAVE YOUR OWN RESERVED TABLE(S) WHICH WILL GIVE YOU AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE YOUR OWN PERSONAL CELEBRATION OF CLASSMATES, FRIENDS AND FAMILY, WITHIN OUR OVERALL CELEBRATION, OF COMMUNITY, DECADE, HOLIDAY & ALMA MATER! WE WILL DO WHAT WE CAN TO SEAT GUEST TOGETHER THAT “EXPRESS INTEREST IN SITTING TOGETHER” WHEN THEY BUY THEIR TICKETS, BUT IT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO DO THAT AFTER YOU BUY TICKETS. WE CAN DEFINITELY SEAT GUESTS TOGETHER THAT BOUGHT A TABLE OF 10 TOGETHER WHEN THEY INITIALLY PURCHASED. WE CAN ALSO EASILY SEAT A PARTY OF 2 (A COUPLE) TOGETHER AS LONG AS THAT REQUEST IS MADE WHEN THE TICKETS ARE PURCHASED. WE WILL TRY TO MAKE THINGS WORK FOR YOU, BUT JUST KNOW, WE NEED SEATING REQUESTS UP FRONT, ALONG WITH YOUR PAYMENT TO ATTEMPT TO FULFILL ANY SEATING REQUESTS TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY AS MENTIONED ABOVE.
*DISCOUNT ON HOTEL ROOMS:
FOR GUESTS THAT PURCHASE TICKETS, WE PRESENTLY HAVE 12 DISCOUNTED ROOMS SET ASIDE FOR OUR OVER NIGHT GUESTS AT $139 PER NIGHT PLUS HOTEL TAXES. RESERVATIONS FOR THOSE DISCOUNTED ROOMS HAVE TO BE MADE NO LATER THAN NOV 28, 2025 AND IT’S ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS, UNTIL THEY’RE ALL TAKEN.
IF ALL THE ROOMS GET BOOKED EARLY AND THERE ARE STILL ROOMS AVAILABLE, THEY MAY SET ASIDE A FEW MORE BUT THAT WILL BE AT THE HOTEL’S DISCRETION. YOU MUST PURCHASE TICKETS BEFORE YOU WILL BE ELGIBLE FOR THE DISCOUNT. WE WILL HAVE TO GIVE YOU A LINK TO BOOK THE ROOM OR REFER YOU TO OUR REPRESENTATIVE TO BOOK YOUR ROOM AFTER YOU HAVE PURCHASED YOUR TICKETS. LET US KNOW IF YOU’RE INTERESTED IN GETTING A DISCOUNTED ROOM TO STAY OVERNIGHT ON THE DAY OF OUR CHRISTMAS PARTY & BANQUET.
*GUESTS MAY MAKE ADDITIONAL PLANS:
I’M GUESSING SOME OF OUR OVERNIGHT GUESTS ARE PLANNING TO HAVE SOME SORT OF AFTER PARTY IN THEIR ROOMS, BUT I’M SURE YOU’LL FIND THAT MOST OF US CAN’T STAY AWAKE LIKE WE DID BACK IN THE DAY SO SOME OF THOSE FOLKS MAY WANT TO SIMPLY SETTLE FOR MEETING IN THE HOTEL FOR BREAKFAST THE NEXT MORNING, IF NOT MEETING FOR SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE AT A CHURCH OF THEIR CHOOSING. THAT WILL BE ON THOSE GUESTS OF COURSE
*DRESS / ATTIRE:
PLEASE DRESS TO IMPRESS AND KNOW THIS IS NOT AN EVENT WHERE YOU ARE TO WEAR 70S ATTIRE LIKE BELL BOTTOMS AND STACK HEEL SHOES OK!
AND NO JEANS PLEASE! NOW IF SOME OF YOU LADIES FEEL YOU CAN STILL ROCK A DRESSY MINI, WE WON’T BE MAD ATCHA ! SERIOUSLY THOUGH, WITHOUT BEING TOO DEMANDING REGARDING ATTIRE, WE’LL JUST SAY IT’S DEFINITELY A DRESSY AFFAIR. AFTER ALL, IT IS A BANQUET AS WELL AS A PARTY, SO WE ASK OUR GENTLEMEN TO WEAR A DRESS JACKET AT LEAST, AND WE DO KNOW OUR CLASSY LADIES OF OUR 7OS DECADE KNOW HOW TO DRESS, CONSIDERING THEY TAUGHT MOST OF US GUYS HOW TO !
*SEE BELOW ON WHERE TO FIND OTHER FACEBOOK POSTED INFO ON THIS EVENT:
CHECK OUT OTHER PEARL HIGH & NORTH HIGH FACEBOOK TIME LINES & PAGES FOR VARIOUS POSTS PROVIDING MORE DETAILS ON WHY AND HOW WE’RE HAVING OUR 70S DECADE CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR OUR HIGH SCHOOL ALUMS FROM NORTH NASHVILLE OF THAT TRANSITIONAL ERA OF THE 70S DECADE
*YOU CAN ALSO FIND MORE POSTED INFORMATION SEE LORENZO SHORT’s
FACEBOOK TIMELINE OR PAGE TO SEE OTHER POSTS REGARDING WHY AND HOW WE’RE HAVING THIS EVENT.
*READ BELOW ON HOW TO CONSIDER PARTYING WITH A PURPOSE:

MR. HENRY IRVIN, JR. OF THE PEARL HIGH SCHOOL HERITAGE CLASSES FOUNDATION, INC., WILL BE THERE AND AVAILABLE TO EXPLAIN TO ALL OF US HOW THE PEARL HIGH SCHOOL HERITAGE CLASSES FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP FUND GIVES SIGNIFICANT SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS TO OUR COMMUNITY’S YOUTH & GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS. HE WILL INFORM YOU ON HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE IF YOU SO DESIRE. YOU SEE, WE CAN PARTY WITH A PURPOSE AS WELL! THAT’S NOT TO SAY THAT GETTING YOU OLD RETIRED GEEZERS OUT OF THE HOUSE TO THROW DOWN EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE AT AN UPSCALE EVENT LIKE THIS ONE IS NOT A NOBLE PURPOSE, BUT WE ARE CAPABLE OF HAVING MULTIPLE PURPOSES I DARE SAY.
*MISSION STATEMENT:
TO REUNITE OUR NORTH NASHVILLE COMMUNITY BY HAVING SIGNIFICANT AND REGULAR EVENTS THAT ALLOW US TO “SEE AND RECOGNIZE OURSELVES” AS DESCENDANTS OF THOSE NEWLY FREED CITIZENS THAT LIVED SUCCESSFULLY AND FREE IN NORTH NASHVILLE FROM AS FAR BACK AS THE DAYS DURING THE CIVIL WAR WHEN THE UNION ARMY OCCUPIED FORT GILLEM AND JEFFERSON ST RAN ALONG SIDE THAT FORT, WHICH SOON BECAME THE GROUNDS OF FISK UNIVERSITY….AS WELL AS “TO SEE AND RECOGNIZE OURSELVES” AS THE CITIZENS THAT THRIVED AND PROSPERED IN NORTH NASHVILLE WELL BEFORE THE INTRUSION OF THE I-40 INTERSTATE AND THE SUBSEQUENT GENTRIFICATION OF OUR NORTH NASHVILLE COMMUNITY TODAY:
*UPDATE ON TICKET SALES:
*IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT RESERVING YOUR SPOT IN THIS CELEBRATORY REUNION OF OUR NORTH NASHVILLE COMMUNITY AND IT’S ALUMS OF THE 7OS DECADE, CONSIDER THIS BELOW AS FAIR WARNING.
*IF YOU DRAG YOUR FEET ON PURCHASING TICKETS, YOU WILL MOST
DEFINITELY MISS OUT ON THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE AND THE BEST PARTY & BANQUET YOU MAY EVER ATTEND! YOU SEE, I’M HAPPY TO SAY THAT TICKETS ARE NOW SELLING LIKE HOT CAKES!

Honoring Pearl High School CLINIC BOWL CHAMPIONS of 1969
After decades of going unnoticed the 1969 PHS football team will be honored for winning the historic Clinic Bowl game on Thanksgiving day in 1969.This was the first time an all Black team had been invited to play in this game that benefited children who had medical issues. We beat Maplewood HS 6-0. This team chose to play in this game to make history, therefore rejecting the opportunity to play in the first TSSAA playoffs. Would you please send out this information to join the celebration on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 9:00 AM worship service at Ebenezer Community Church, 2624 Morena Street. Many of the players from this team went on to play in college and professionally along with becoming city leaders and successful persons.
